Smartasses Magazine Top 100 - Female EmpowermentAllison Stokke Bio – Smartasses Magazine Allison Rebecca Stokke (born March 22, 1989) is an American track and field athlete and fitness model. She was born to Allan and Cindy Stokke in Newport Beach, California. Her older brother David was a national level youth gymnast. Stokke is a graduate of Newport Harbor High School, where she was a member of the national honor society and the California Scholarship Federation, as well as a winner of the Newport Harbor HS Academic Excellence Award. She graduated from California State University where she studied sociology.

After trying gymnastics, Stokke took up pole vaulting in high school and soon became one of the country’s best vaulters. As a freshman, with a vault of 12-7.75, Stokke broke the American record for a high school freshman. As a sophomore in 2004, she won the age 15 & 16 United States title with a vault of 12-6, and set a new high school sophomore record with 13-4 in 2005. That same season, she also took first place at the Orange County Championships with a 13-0 vault, and was selected to both the USA Today All-USA Track Team and the Los Angeles Times’ Top Performers list. As a junior, Stokke made the Orange County Register All-County Track Team, and in May 2008, won the CIF-Southern Section Masters. Despite breaking her leg, she still managed to take first place in the CIF Division II finals with a mark of 13-0 and took second place in the CIF state final with a 12-9 vault. For her senior year of high school, Stokke ranked second in national high school rankings with a new best of 13-6.75, and finished eighth at the national junior championships that year. That same season, she also broke the county record with a mark of 13-7 which ranked second in both California and the nation. During her freshman year as a Cal Bear, Stokke posted a Cal freshman record of 13-5.75 at the Pac-10 Championships, and recorded a 13-1 at the MPSF Championships to set the school indoor record. As a sophomore in 2009, her best indoor height was a 13-4.25 at the UW Invitational. As a junior in 2010, she earned USTFCCCA All-Academic, MPSF All-Academic and Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention honors.

At the age of seventeen, images of Stokke were widely shared on the Internet, and a one year-old picture of her adjusting her hair at a track meet in New York, resulted in more than 1,000 messages on her MySpace page. Her unsought sex symbol status was covered nationally and internationally, and caused debate on the sexualization of both sports women and young people via the internet. After college, Stokke became a sportswear model, appearing in 2015 campaigns for Nike and Athleta, and for Uniqlo in 2016. She also began to work with GoPro, delivering a series of videos of her vaulting heights with the camera attached to her pole to demonstrate the inner working of the sport, and advertise the action camera equipment. Images of Stokke competing were used by Bryan Konietzko and animators at Studio Mir, as a body study for the character Korra for the animated series The Legend of Korra. In 2008, she appeared on one episode of iCarly alongside actress Miranda Cosgrove.

Why we think she’s hot:

In 2007, simple photos from a single Californian Track & Field website, turned Allison Stokke into a bona fide Internet sensation. So much in fact, that the pictures spawned editorials from The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Sydney Morning Herald, The New York Times, and even the German weekly Der Spiegel— not to mention over a million results on search engines. In fact, the world found Allison so spectacular, that CBS and even the BBC gave television coverage of the phenomenon. In these days, now that everyone not only has web access, but has also seen thousands of sports beauties come and go since then, this perfect storm paradox will likely never happen again. But for a brief planck unit, no one would argue that with her deep brown eyes and killer bod, Miss Stokke simply pole vaulted her way into everyone’s hearts as the definitive Hottest Woman in Sports.
