Smartasses Magazine Top 100 - Female EmpowermentAlodia Gosiengfiao Bio – Smartasses Magazine Alodia Almira Arraiza Gosiengfiao (born March 9, 1988) is a Filipina cosplayer, model, TV presenter, actress and celebrity endorser. Gosiengfiao’s name was given by her mother from a name book– Alodia means love and Almira means princess. She is of Filipino, Chinese and Spanish descent. Gosiengfiao has a younger sister, Ashley Gosiengfiao, who is a recording artist, cosplayer and model as well. She attended Assumption College from preschool to second grade and Miriam College from third grade to her fourth year of high school. Gosiengfiao graduated in 2009 from Ateneo de Manila University with a BFA Information Design Degree.

Gosiengfiao became involved in cosplay after contacting other anime and video game enthusiasts in an Internet fan forum called Animé Club, and began cosplaying in 2003 at the age of fifteen, joining various competitions in metro Manila. Her first character was a Priestess from Ragnarok Online at the Ragna Launch in Glorietta. Gosiengfiao began to attract attention when she won third place in the 2003 C3 Convention as Gun Mage Rikku of Final Fantasy X-2. This led to her and her sister Ashley being featured on the cover of issue 14 of Culture Crash Magazine, a Manga Magazine in the Philippines. Since then, Gosiengfiao has cosplayed a series of characters from over forty anime, movie and video game titles including Witchblade, G.I. Joe, K-On!, Paradise Kiss, and Evangelion. As a multi-awarded cosplayer, she is often invited to appear at conventions, or to judge competitions locally and abroad, and has been called the Cosplay Queen of the Philippines, widely recognized for helping to raise the profile of cosplaying across the world. She started judging at the age of 18.

Gosiengfiao’s achievements in the cosplay community led her to being recognized by mainstream media and various companies in the Philippines. She is one of the Ambassadors and VJs for Animax-Asia known as the Ani-mates, and the co-host of the ABS-CBN prank show Laugh Out Loud. Gosiengfiao has been featured in several magazines such as Meg Magazine, Preview Magazine, GAME! Magazine and Digital Photographers Philippines Magazine, in addition to newspapers such as the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the Manila Bulletin and the Manila Times. Other than local media, she has also been featured in newspapers and magazines in different countries such as Japan, Singapore and the United States. Gosiengfiao was also part of the book called OTACOOL: Worldwide Otaku Rooms and OTACOOL2: Worldwide Cosplayers by Danny Choo. As an avid gamer and the official model and endorser of IPVG-EGames’ Zhu Xian Online game, she held her first Fans Day during the Domination 3 Event in April 2009. Gosiengfiao was also featured on the Tokyo TV show, Culture: Japan, featuring her costumes, artworks, comic books and action figure collections.

Gosiengfiao was named one of the top ten most popular Cosplayers in 2014. As a high school student, she was a member of the Miriam College High School Pep squad. Gosiengfiao is also a blogger and performer, and is fond of art, fashion, video games, photography, collecting toys & action figures, gadgets and playing the piano. She was named by UNO Magazine as one of the Most Influential Women in the Philippines.

Why we think she’s hot:

Often referred to as the Cosplay Queen, Alodia Gosiengfiao is so very much the perfect combination of that feminine kind of frail and that feminine kind of badassery, that frankly, we prefer to think of her as the Cosplay Goddess. In fact, when The Baroness was named to our list of the Top 50 Comic Book Babes of All Time, it was Gosiengfiao’s cosplaying interpretation of the GI Joe villainess who got our vote as to who should play her in a film, not Sienna Miller. Combine that notion with the fact that Smartasses Magazine not only has the largest Asian following out of all of the annual Top 100 compendiums out there, but having two-thirds of our mag’s mantra being Geek Culture, & Amazing Women to boot, suffice it so say that it kind of crossed our minds that perhaps we shouldn’t be building Alodia a bio page– perhaps we should be building her church.
