Smartasses Magazine Top 100 - Female EmpowermentAlyssa Milano Bio – Smartasses Magazine Alyssa Jayne Milano (born December 19, 1972) is an American actress, producer and former singer. She is the daughter of Lin and Thomas M. Milano and has a younger brother, Cory who is also an actor. Milano was born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn where her family remained until a neighborhood shooting prompted them to relocate to Great Kills, Staten Island. She became engaged to agent David Bugliari in December 2008, and the couple married on August 15, 2009. They have a son, Milo, and a daughter, Elizabella. Milano is of Italian ancestry.

Milano began her career at age seven, when her babysitter, without notifying her parents, took her to an audition for one of the four principal parts in a national touring company of Annie. She was one of four selected from more than 1,500 girls. During the course of her work in the play, Milano and her mother were on the road for eighteen months. After returning to New York, she appeared in television commercials and did several roles in off-Broadway productions, including the first American musical adaptation of Jane Eyre. At age eleven, Milano won her first major acting role in the television sitcom Who’s the Boss?. In August 1984, she made her film debut in the coming of age drama Old Enough. The film was screened at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won First Prize. In 1985, Milano starred in her first major film, Commando, opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger. In later years, she is best known as Phoebe Halliwell on the TV series Charmed, opposite Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combs. She and Combs became producers during the show’s fourth season. Milano’s other notable roles include appearing in ten episodes of My Name Is Earl, portraying bad girl Jennifer Mancini on Melrose Place, and appearing alongside Christina Applegate in the comedy film, Hall Pass. In 2013-2014 she also starred on the ABC drama series, Mistresses.

Milano was part of TBS’s special coverage installment Hot Corner for the 2007 Major League Baseball playoffs. A fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, in April 2007, she began writing a baseball blog on the Major League Baseball’s website. That year she also reported at Fenway Park during the ALDS between the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In 2007, Milano launched her Touch line of team apparel for female baseball fans, selling it through her blog, Major League Baseball’s website and through a boutique store located in Citi Field, the home of the New York Mets. As a teen, Milano reportedly inspired Disney animators to create the look and personality of Ariel in the 1989 film The Little Mermaid. After Commando was shown in Japan, it prompted a Japanese producer to offer Milano a five-album record deal. Her albums, which she described as bubblegum pop, went platinum in Asia, though she later showed discontent in its musical quality. In support of PETA, Milano appeared in a 2007 advertisement advocating vegetarianism in a dress made entirely of vegetables.

Why we think she’s hot:

They say that history repeats itself every twenty years. One could argue that, before there was Justin Bieber in 2009, there was New Kids On The Block in 1989. Before there was The Simpsons in 2009, there was… well, The Simpsons in 1989. And before there was Miley Cyrus on the Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana, there was Alyssa Milano on ABC’s (Disney owned network) Who’s The Boss?. Yes, tweenagers of today, Alyssa Milano was that big. For the little lassie, whose parents had to uproot from Brooklyn and move 3,000 miles to Hollywood so that she could portray a girl… from Brooklyn, we have to admit that she’s just as captivating now as she was back when we were tweenagers ourselves, sneaking a copy of her Teen Steam workout video into our bedrooms.
