Avril Lavigne Bio – Smartasses Magazine – Avril Ramona Lavigne (born September 27, 1984) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and fashion designer. She was born in Belleville, Ontario, and spent most of her youth in the town of Napanee. Her father named her Avril after the French word for the month of April. Lavigne is of French, English, Scottish, and German descent. She has an older brother, Matthew, and a younger sister, Michelle. Lavigne wed fellow Canadian rocker Chad Kroeger, frontman of the band Nickelback, on July 1, 2013 (Canada Day). On September 2, 2015, Lavigne announced her separation from Kroeger.
In November 2000, Antonio L.A. Reid, ex-husband of R&B legend, Pebbles, was invited to hear Lavigne sing. Her 15-minute audition so impressed Reid that he immediately signed her to Arista with a deal worth over $2 million for two albums. With support from her parents, Lavigne left school to focus on her music career. In 2002, when she was 17 years old, she entered the music industry with her debut album Let Go. Since her professional debut, she has sold more than 30 million albums and over 50 million singles worldwide.
When Lavigne first gained publicity, she was known for her tomboyish style, in particular her necktie-and-tank-top combinations. She preferred Converse Chuck Taylors, 70’s style wristbands, and sometimes shoelaces wrapped around her fingers. In response to her fashion and musical influences, the media called Lavigne the Pop Punk Princess, while press and fans regarded her as the anti-Britney Spears– in part because of her less commercial image, but also because she was noticeably headstrong. She eventually took on a more gothic style as she began her second album, Under My Skin.
Lavigne’s first television appearance was in a 2002 episode of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, performing Sk8er Boi with her band in a nightclub. She later made a cameo appearance in the 2004 film Going the Distance. In November 2005, after going through an audition to land the role, Lavigne travelled to New Mexico to film a single scene in the 2007 film, The Flock, alongside Claire Danes and Richard Gere. Her feature film debut was voicing an animated character in the 2006 film Over the Hedge. In December 2005, Lavigne signed to appear in Fast Food Nation. In August 2006, Canadian Business magazine ranked her as the seventh top Canadian actor in Hollywood, in their second-annual ranking Celebrity Power List.
Since childhood, Lavigne has struggled with ADHD and was often kicked out of class for misbehaving. In July 2008, she launched her clothing line, Abbey Dawn. In 2009, Billboard named Lavigne the number 10 pop artist in the Best of the 2000’s chart. She was listed as the 28th overall best act of the decade, based on album and single chart performance in the US. Lavigne was featured in the 2003 game The Sims: Superstar as a non-playable celebrity.
Why we think she’s hot:
There’s no reason to talk about Her smile, Her body, Her posture, Her eyes, Her hair, Her voice, Her attitude, or any of the other multitude of things that contributed to why She was named the Smartasses Magazine Sexiest Woman Alive in 2012. In fact, there really is no other way to possibly sum up all that is Avril, other than to proclaim Her a divinity. A supreme being. In fact, Avril is such a deity, we’ve even begun renaming holidays in Her honor. Obviously, we celebrate Avrilmas on Her birthday. October 31st is Hallavigne. That Thursday in November is now known as Thanksgavigne, and then there’s the lesser known, Laventine’s Day in February. Make no bones about it, Avril Lavigne is God.
