Smartasses Magazine Top 100 - Female EmpowermentCat Osterman Bio – Smartasses Magazine Catherine Leigh Osterman (born April 16, 1983) is an American softball player. Osterman was born in Houston, Texas to Gary and Laura Osterman. Her younger brothers are Craig and Chris. Osterman attended Cypress Springs High School and the University of Texas.

Osterman began playing softball in first grade before quitting to play soccer and basketball. She came back to the diamond in fifth grade, filling in as a backup pitcher for a little league team. Osterman set several records on her high school’s softball team. In 2001, she struck out 33 batters in a 14-inning 1-0 shutout and set a national record for strikeouts in a game under 20 innings. She also set a national record for strikeouts in a 14-inning game, breaking the former record of 31 in 1985. As a starting pitcher for the Texas Longhorns, Osterman pitched a total of 20 NCAA career no-hitters and 10 NCAA career perfect games, and held the NCAA Division I career strikeout record with 2,265 strikeouts over her four year career, surpassed by Monica Abbott on May 6, 2007. She was also the first softball player to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and made a second SI cover with the 2004 Olympic Gold Medal Softball team, becoming one of only two softball players to appear on the cover twice. She also won the silver medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics. As an NPF pitcher, Osterman was signed with the Connecticut Brakettes, Rockford Thunder and USSSA Pride. She retired from the NPF as a multi-award winner in August, 2015.

Among Osterman’s favorite athletes are fellow Texans Roger Clemens and Nolan Ryan, as well as NBA player Hakeem Olajuwon. In the bonus features of the Bad News Bears DVD, Billy Bob Thornton admits to having a crush on her.

Why we think she’s hot:

Without a doubt, Cat Osterman is one of the most dominating players the Olympics and NPF have ever seen, and with the olive toned skin and brunette locks, she’s just as dominating in the good-looks department too. We particularly love it when she’s on the mound and in the zone. The lips curl, the brow furrows into a little “11″, and her brown eyes pierce with fire as she Cat-apaults her golden sphere past some of the most fearsome hitters to ever play the sport. But, lovely long limbs and insanely amazing strikeout rates aside, perhaps the best thing about Miss Osterman is the way she strives to be such a positive influence on the next generation. Not only does she habitually handle herself with class, she also encourages the softball pitchers of tomorrow to become just as great as she is.
