Smartasses Magazine Top 100 - Female EmpowermentKorina Rosario Bio – Smartasses Magazine Korina Rosario (born May 3, 1996) is an American athlete and left-handed utility player for the Florida State Seminoles of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Rosario has two sisters, Kayla and Kiana. She graduated from West Florida High School in Pensacola, Florida, where she participated in several extracurricular activities as a member of the National Honor Society, the Health Occupation Students of America, and the WFHS student government. Rosario signed her National Letter of Intent on November 13, 2013 and a year later, enrolled at Florida State University as an Exploratory major.

As a freshman in high school in 2011, Rosario was named the West Florida High School Jaguar’s Defensive Player of the Year. The following year, she was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Year, and earned Class 5A All-Florida honorable mention honors. As a junior in 2013, Rosario was again given Class 5A All-Florida honorable mention honors, won Florida’s District 1 5A Player of the Year, was WFHS’s Wendy’s High School Heisman representative, and was selected as the Jaguar’s Most Valuable Player. As a senior in 2014, in addition to being selected to the 2014 MaxPreps All-American team and the 2014 FACA All-Star Team, Rosario was again named team MVP, as well as the All-Area Pitcher of the Year, the Pensacola News Journal Female Athlete of the Year, the FHSAA 4A Player of the Year and the Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Softball. That same year, her 28-1 record led her team to the FHSAA 4A State Championships, while fanning 323 batters and garnering a 0.19 ERA. Rosario also played on the West Florida Elite travel team from 2012-2014, and ended her prep career setting school records for both career batting average and pitching strikeouts.

As a freshman at FSU, Rosario played in thirty-eight games with twelve starts as a true freshman. Her first career pitching appearance came on April 8, 2015 against third-ranked Florida, where she retired both batters she faced, including a strikeout of All-American Kelsey Stewart. Rosario hit her first career home run at Georgia Tech on April 25, 2015 – a two-run homer which proved to be the difference in a 3-2 win for the Seminoles. That same year, Rosario competed with the Puerto Rico National Team at the 2015 WBSC Junior World Championships, placing third with wins over Canada, Mexico and China.

During her sophomore campaign in 2016, Rosario played in fifty-seven games. Among her season’s highlights, she made eighteen pinch running appearances, as well as a game-saving catch at the wall versus thirteenth ranked UCLA on March 4, 2016. Rosario also played in all four games at the 2016 Women’s College World Series.

Rosario wears number 8 to honor Cat Osterman, her idol. Rosario once helped West Florida High School’s Optimist Club make Christmas wreaths and sell Christmas trees. During her high school home games, Rosario’s father would often bring her chocolate-covered strawberries. In a ceremony at her alma mater, Rosario had her number retired by West Florida High School on February 9, 2016.

Why we think she’s hot:

Let’s face facts. West Florida High school in Pensacola, Florida, consciously chose to retire the number of Korina Rosario for all of eternity, because after the castration of Uranus at the hand of Cronus, she gloriously arose from the white Caribbean sea foam, and floated ashore on a scallop shell as the inherent goddess of beauty, love and pleasure- compelling the faculty to venerate and pay homage to her infinite majesty, until the dusk of man. Okay, maybe that’s a more accurate description of the Greek goddess Aphrodite, and perhaps the honor had a little bit more to do with Miss Rosario being the 2014 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Softball player of the year… but you get the point.
